According to market analysis by the Centre for Retail Research, there have been 26 major retail failures in the period since the recession, incorporating 11,220 stores and 138,134 employees. The retail businesses vary widely, from Blacks Leisure in 2008, to Brantano and BHS in 2016, with the biggest failure being Woolworths, which affected 820 stores and 30,000 staff.
